Malene Kastalje is one of those artists able to achieve the smoothest connection between her soul and the way she works. In this series “The swollen part”, primarily made of silicone, she invented her own technique in order to manipulate the matter and give a totally unpredicted aspect.
She aims to communicate emotionally through a high level of tactility, also expressing a reminiscence of something uncomfortable and imperfect. Playing with contradictions is her way to express the inexpressible of life: lively colours but disturbing shapes, rough but soft surfaces, big sizes but very light weight.
